Well In honor of Veteran's Day. I would like to take You back to May 2007 and let You know about a awesome organization and how they put on a great event for Memorial Day on Memorial Day 2007 The Woodridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 1578, along with help from The Lisle/Woodridge Fire District, Woodridge Police Department, Boy Scout Troop 512, Boy Scout Troop 516, Boy Scout Troop 562, Lisle/Woodridge Fire District Honor Guard Bagpipers, and Downers Grove High School Trojan Marching Band put on a totally awesome event. The Woodridge VFW puts on a really nice Memorial Day Ceremony. The day includes two key parts. The first part is a silent parade, which starts at Lisle/Woodridge Fire District Station 2 and goes to The Veterans Memorial at Janes and Center Drive, where the crowd is waiting for a special Memorial Day Service. The Woodridge VFW puts on the Village of Woodridge Official Memorial Day Ceremony. These activities serve as Woodridge Official Tribute to Memorial Day.

This silent parade serves as a fitting tribute to all of those brave men and women who made that ultimate sacrifice for their Country. While this is not necessarily a time of sorrow, it is a time to pay Our respects to all of those War Heroes that did not make it back. We want to say to them - Your body may be physically gone from this earth, but Your spirit will live on. So in respect of those troops there is not a lot of sirens, bells whistles, and such. It's not the 4th of July You know. It just different groups marching in parade. Even through there is not the fanfare of loud sirens and trumpets and whatever, parade goers of all ages can witness a very special thing taking place. As I mentioned three Boy Scout Troops here in Woodridge took part in this parade as well as the ceremony later. Represented was Boy Scout Troops 512, 516, 562. Also marching in the Parade was The Woodridge Police Department, Lisle/Woodridge Fire District as well as their Honor Guard and Bagpipers, Downers Grove North High School Marching and of course, The Woodridge VFW. Older VFW members were able to take part in the entire parade by riding in John Suckany's H2 Hummer.

Then immediately after The Silent Parade The Woodridge VFW starts their Memorial Day Service. Just a short service paying tribute to all those You gave their lives so WE can enjoy Our rich freedoms and comforts of life. Political agendas put inside these brave and women truly fought for something they believed in. Something I believe and will believe in to the day I die. The United of States America.

Presentations were given by various Woodridge VFW Post 1578 members, as well as leaders from local government.

I personally am always impressed by The Police Department and Fire Department's presence at this thing. You just goose bumps looking at those guys and knowing the risks they endure as well.

Of course a wreath is laid down and taps in played.

Even though Woodridge has a population of 33,000 people and even though about 200 attend the parade and service, I do feel that We still have some true American Patriots in Woodridge, Illinois.
