                For The Village of Woodridge

Well, I gotta take You back to the beginning of August and tell You about an awesome event that took place in Woodridge, Illinois. The Woodridge Community Resource Center and The Woodridge Police Department put on Woodridge's National Night Out.

All residents of Woodridge were invited to the 25th anniversary of "National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime." National Night Out was held on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the grassy area on the northwest corner of 83rd Street and Janes Avenue.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night was taking place in Communities all around the Country, featuring activities similar to Woodridge's National Night Out

The event included: A DJ and musical entertainment, inflatables, hula hoops, bean bag toss, face and body painting, crime bingo, balloon animals created by a couple of clowns, a fire department obasticle course featuring big wheels, bozo buckets, and more. Also there was deliciouseoso dinner by Carabbas of Woodridge, as well as a Fire Department meet and greet, and Police Department demonstrations including a unique look at some of the department's most exciting vehicles. The Crime Prevention Unit will be on hand with information and will be available to talk to residents about concerns in their neighborhoods. There was also a demonstration from Woodridge Police Dog Udo and his handler Bob Chrishel.

This event was coordinated by The Woodridge Community Resource Center which is a part of The Woodridge Police Department. The Woodridge Community Resource Center which was located right in the strip mall behind all of today's activities, The Woodridge Community Resource Center, located at 8274 Janes Avenue, offers programs to assist residents with a safe place to go after school, parenting support, ESL, and computer learning classes to the entire community. The CRC offers two main programs, the After School Program and the Summer Camp Program.
