Now, let’s jump back to the beginning of August 2009 for another
outstanding and awesome picnic. Yes, that’s right. Once again
it’s is time to look at all fun at The Scottish Home Picnic.
Chemotherapy
On Saturday August 1, 2009 The Illinois Saint Andrew Society’s
Scottish Home in North Riverside, Illinois was putting on it’s
very special summer picnic.
This picnic as always included a special sale with included a
collection of variety items. Also there was a bake sale and well as
raffles. There was both traditional and non- traditional Scottish Food
at the picnic, including meat pies, bridies and sausages and an
good ole’ American fare hamburgers and hot dogs . There was
plenty of activities for the wee little ones, including pony rides,
crafts for both the young and not so young, miniature golf (a favorite
for the picnic as long as I can remember), a bouncy thing for the kids,
as well as a variety of games. And the one and only Rudy Kazoodi along
with Bubbles were mingling with the crowd, as well as giving tatoos and
facing painting.
Another big feature for the picnic, although added just a few years
ago, is there world famous pie eating contest, which they put on two
separate times during the picnic.
Of course there was as always plenty of entertainment. First there was
an awesome performance by The Savannah band, playing a wide variety of
music, featuring rock n roll, jazz, blues and of course one or two
traditional Scottish tunes. As always, there was an awesome performance
by The Thistle and Heather Highland Dancers. Of course, You know it
baby, The Grand Finale for the picnic was an totally awesome
performance by The Chicago Caledonian Pipe Band.
A fun time was had by all including residents of The Scottish Home.
The Scottish Home is a full service elderly care facility, offering a
variety of levels of care. The Home is a perfectly location for our
loved ones to enjoy life to the fullest. The Scottish Home offers a
wide variety of activities for residents and although being Scottish is
not a requirement to live at The Scottish Home, it is a place to
celebrate Scottish Heritage and pride.
