Walk For Sight
"We Walk... To Light The Way"

Sunday June 1, 2008

Well, once again it is time to take a nice walk in the woods. I want to take You back to last month, to June 2008 and You know that The beginning of June in The Chicagoland Area would not be complete if not for The Lions of Illinois Foundationís 4th Annual Walk For Sight. It is has been My pleasure to cover this event all 4 Years. On Sunday June 1, 2008, Lion Club members and families and friends from Lions District 1J and throughout the state of Illinois gathered at The Danada House & Equestrian Center in Wheaton, Illinois to walk 3 Miles. Usually a Night Walk this walk was tweaked a little to be earlier in the day and more family friendly. The event was founded and chaired by Darien Lion Ray Kruyskinski and put on by The Lions of Illinois Foundation. The lions of Illinois Foundation serves as the chartable arm for The Illinois Lions Club, running several events including this one and of course Candy Day. There was some fun activities such as walking as a blind person would and beep baseball. We all know how Beep Baseball works. A person is blindfolded and a beeping ball is thrown them and they attempt to hit it. This year even the outfield was blindfold, so players had the ball hit to them and had to feel around for the ball by listening to it beep. Participants this Year as well as the last three years had a chance to make their presence known by stamping a footprint and signing a banner. Of course plenty of refreshments were available to walkers provided by PepsiCo, featuring Gatorade products. New this year Free Hotdogs! All Right! Hot Dogs were grilled actually inside a Cement Truck and manned by Lion Ray Jachim and other fellow Bridgeview Lions.

As always there was two trails, a gold trail and a purple trail. No more flashlights, but the same mission walking for the sight impaired. This Yearís footage, that You are currently seeing came from The Gold Trail, but donít fret Purple Trail lovers, We be filming on the Purple Trail, next Year. We alternate between the purple and gold trails from Year to Year.
