#1 Jaycees Chapter

Illinois
For
2005

On Saturday January 28, 2006 at The General Assembly;
Illinois Jaycees Convention in Decatur, Illinois, The
Woodridge Jaycees were presented with "The Granddaddy
of all awards" - the coveted Giessenbier Award for the year,
the highest possible honor that can be received from The
Illinois Jaycees. The Woodridge Jaycees are now The Top
Chapter in Illinois for 2005. With 131 Chapters in the
State of Illinois, The Woodridge Jaycees bulldozed
through all of them, (Naperville, Palatine, Elgin, Joliet,
Aurora, Springfield, Peoria, etc, etc - even Chicago!!) to
take the Giessenbier Trophy back home to The Village
of Woodridge. It was truly Oscar Night for The Woodridge
Jaycees. By the end of the evening, The Woodridge Jaycees
walked off the stage and down the red carpet with nearly 20
individual awards. The most awards received for any Illinois
 Jaycees Chapter.

We received the Giessenbier Award for our population
Division and that is according to your population in
your community, then the President's Club award, which

Blue Chip which is excellence in Programming and
Membership, then we received Overall Sweepstakes in

the community. Then for the 4th Quarter, which is the
last quarter of the year we received The Outstanding
Chapter Newsletter for the Fourth Quarter, Git R' Done,
then we received Membership VP Choice Award for the
Fourth Quarter for a project called More Cushion for
the Pushin' into 2006, which was an ad we ran to
obtain more members. The ones that say The
Outstanding are the top honors, but remember with
all this the Giessenbier was the best award The Woodridge
Jaycees could have won. We also received Overall #1

With Retired Chicago Fire Commissioner James Joyce at North Avenue Beach For 2004 Chicago Polar Plunge To Benefit Special Olympics - Chicago

With One of The Legends in Radio King B Ron Britain. King B is a legend in the radio industry. It was my honor and privilege to be able to profile a legend of this magnitude. King B has been involved in radio and television for nearly 50 years. In Cincinnati in the early 60's he had 73% of the listening audience. He was one of the first radio personalities on Chicago's Legendary WCFL in the 60's  WCFL's ratings, led by Britain, quickly moved him to the top however never content to rest on his laurels, he recognized something was lacking in radio. I knew there were many great artists whose music was not being given air time," said King B, "and there were also many established artists who were getting only their hits played and nothing more. A classic example was a guy who was getting a lot of air play in London where I met him, but no one in the states had even heard his music on the air. That guy was Jimi Hendrix. Stations just didn't know how to handle his music but I knew that I wanted to create a showcase for artists like Hendrix where their music could be heard." Thus, Ron's conception of presenting a show different not only from WCFL's format but different from anything on the air around the country was the beginning of the Ron Britain Subterranean Circus. The word spread throughout the industry quickly and in a short time, that one hour Sunday night show expanded to three hours, giving listeners some of the best music ever heard anywhere. The Ron Britain Sub-Circus was a music purist's delight filled with interviews with artists like Frank Zappa, Janis Joplin as well as other well-knowns from the 60's such as Brook Benton, James Brown, even the Beach Boys.  "To this day, whenever I talk with any of those entertainers, many who have remained friends, or if I hear from listeners from those days, they all comment about my Sub-Circus, thanking me for adding that exposure or dimension to radio. I find myself thanking them, for making those radio years so incredibly exciting for me."

I am also doing a multiple part series on the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. Each month I feature a different part of the Office.

I have done segments with some of The Greatest Legends in Chicago music, such as The Cryan Shames, Ronnie Rice,  The Buckinghams, Grammy Nominated Disney Gold Recording Artist Dave Rudolf and Chicago Blues Legend Rodney Brown.

I have interviewed National Platinum Recording Artist Tommy James.

I did an exclusive story on The Band - Lost and Found.
They never give interviews ever. But I was able through
a mutual professional and personal relationship convince
Lost and Found to give a rare interview. You will not see
anything about Lost and Found anywhere else. I am the
first and probably the last person to do a story on them
for television. They do not care for the mass media
(Which I can understand), but respected what I
do and wanted to be a part of Mike Kara Presents...
Lost And Found Are independent recording artists
and founders of a style of music called Speed Wood.

I interviewed Chicago Film, Television,
Commercial Actor Steve Abbott.

I have interviewed Radio Legend King B Ron Britain.

I have interviewed Radio Legend Scotty Brink.

I have interviewed Radio Legend Greg Brown.

I have interviewed Radio Legend Paul Perry.

I have interviewed The Very Lovely and Up and Coming
Radio Star -
Frankie From WXRQ 100.7 (Joliet)

The Woodridge VFW put on a special P.O.W./M.I.A. service exclusively for Mike Kara Presents... that aired in September 2003. Several members of The Woodridge VFW have already done Show ID's For Mike Kara Presents...

The Honorable William F. Murphy - Mayor of My hometown of Woodridge, Illinois - has recorded both a Show ID and a Christmas ID. He also has done several interviews with Myself.  The Mayor supports what I do and I really appreciate it!!! It is a real privilege to bring the viewing Public segments on my Hometown of Woodridge!!!

Judy Biggert, United States Congresswoman of The 13th District For Illinois, took the time to sit down with me and talk about local government. She supports what I do and I really appreciate it.

Carol Pankau, Illinois Senator of The 23rd District, took the time to sit down with me and talk about local government. She supports what I do and I really appreciate it.

Father Gerald Riva took the time to record both a Special Greeting For Thanksgiving and a Nice Christmas Message For Mike Kara Presents Really Big Christmas Extravaganza 2003. Father Riva is Senior Pastor at St. Scholastic Catholic Church in My Hometown of Woodridge, Illinois. He has been Senior Pastor about 7 years as of this writing. His warmth and kind spirit are greatly appreciated and I thank him for his support. I really appreciate it!!!

Pastor Paul Kopka took the time to record a Nice Christmas Message For Mike Kara Presents Really Big Christmas Extravaganza 2003. Pastor Paul Kopka is Senior Pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in My Hometown of Woodridge, Illinois. His warmth and kind spirit is greatly appreciated and I want to thank him for his support. I really appreciate it!!!

Pastor Dave Buerstetta took the time to record a Nice Christmas Greeting For Mike Kara Presents Really Big Christmas Extravaganza 2003. Pastor Dave is Pastor at The Woodridge United Methodist Church in My Hometown of Woodridge, Illinois. His warmth and kind spirit is greatly appreciated and I want to thank him for his support. I really appreciate it!!!

Evangelist Rich Little took the time to record a Nice Easter Message For The Mike Kara Presents April 2004 Program. Rich Little is The Evangelist At The Naperville Church of Christ  in Naperville, Illinois. His warmth and kind spirit is greatly appreciated and I thank him for his support. I really appreciate it!!!

I produced an officially authorized segement on The United States Marine Corps in July 2004. This Segment was actually produced through their Public Relations Office out of The Chicago Recruiting Depot. This segment was filmed in part at Ribfest in Naperville, Illinois. We get to talk to Real Marines representing the Marine Corps in a official Capacity. They are speaking on behalf of The Marine Corps with the approval of The Marine Corps.

I did a segment on The Woodridge Jubilee in July 2004. I spoke with The Chairman of The Woodridge Jubilee, Don Ritter who is The Superintendent of Recreation for The Woodridge Park District. I had the pleasure of speaking with The Mayor of Woodridge - William F. Murphy, Woodridge Police Chief Steve Herron, K-9 Officer Robert Chrusciel, Woodridge Police Department Crime Prevention Officer - Kevin Lindblom, Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Rep. Chuck Bayser, along with United States Congresswoman Judy Biggert, as well as all 7 Bands.

I have Produced a segment on Brookfield Zoo's Spectacular Holiday Magic Event. I want to thank Brookfield Zoo for all their cooperation and the professional association we have built together through Mike Kara Presents...

I have built a professional relationship with McNally's Traditional Irish Pub in Elmhurst, Illinois. Every Year I do a fun and exciting Promotion with McNally's For St. Patrick's Day.

The show consists of three segments per monthly episode. Each segment runs about 7 to 9 minutes. Common segments include, but definitely not limited to - Bands, Theater Companies, Charitable Organizations, local clubs within in a town (Lions, Kiwanis, Jaycees, VFW, Amvets, American Legion etc), Police Forces, Firefighters, Civic and Government offices, trade or business schools with a unique subject, Park Districts, Radio Personalities, Hospitals, Unions, High School Sports, and many, many more. The format is often an interview or informational segment.

I always want to be active in what happens around me. There are so many good subjects out there for segments on my show. Covering Musical Artists and  Bands can showcase the talents and accomplishments of a few people, while covering entire organizations can show the accomplishments of many people. Covering State and National Parks can draw needed attention to these great landmarks. Festivals and Fairs can showcase organizations and towns making an impact on their communities in a recreational and fun capacity. We need to have fun, especially in these times. We need to cover the fun in the community as well as the serious. But we need to focus also on organizations and groups trying to make a difference in the community. By doing a multiple segment series on The DuPage County Sheriff's Office we can both educate people on the importance of The Sheriff's Office, and entertain people with interesting tours and demonstrations that happens within the segments. We see so much bad news, we need to showcase the good things in life. Mike Kara Presents is a perfect forum for that.

Mike Kara Presents is produced locally in the General Chicagoland Area. Mike Kara Presents is not shipped in from New York or L.A. Mike Kara Presents is made right here in your local community. Mike Kara Presents may travel around the U.S.A. rarely, but is always edited and put together in Woodridge and then in Elmhurst, Illinois.

St. Scholastica Parish & School
Mardi Gras Festival
2007

Well , this month We celebrate Easter, but back in February 2007,
there was a great celebration taking place. As We all know lent
is a
forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday. We skip
Sundays when we count the forty days, because Sundays commemorate
the Resurrection. Lent began on February 21 2007 and will end on
April 7 2007, which is the day before Easter.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent
officially ends at sundown on 5 April
 (Holy Thursday), with the beginning
of the mass of the Lord's Supper.

Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for
reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus' withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. All churches that have a continuous history extending before AD 1500 observe Lent. The ancient church that wrote, collected, canonized, and propagated the New Testament also observed Lent, believing it to be a commandment from the apostles.

And before this reflection time, there is a time of celebration just
before Lent. Mardi Gras is a celebration that includes music, dancing, entertainment, etc. Mardi Gras is mainly celebrated in New Orleans
Louisiana, but is celebrated all over the world as well.

Well, St. Scholastica Church and School in Woodridge,
Illinois is bringing a little piece of New Orleans to The
 Chicagoland Community.

For the second Year in a row St Scholastica Parish
and School has been putting on a fun-filled two day
Mardi Gras Celebration. This Mardi Gras Festival included
Entertainment, Dinner, a Casino, Raffles and much much more.

This event was as much of a fun -raiser, as it was a fund-raiser. Yes, while this two day event was fundraiser for the St. Scholastica. They wanted this to be a fun-raiser for The Community. A chance to have some clean wholeness fun and at the same time support St. Scholastica.

This event included a large Casino with all the dealers being volunteers
and church parishioners. A delicious dinner was provided as well.

Also there was tons and tons of entertainment.
Rooms in St. Scholastica were transformed
into New Orleans style Night Clubs. With all
these clubs having entertainment and several
rooms, serving as a Coffee bar, Martini Bar, etc.
Each room was given a authentic New Orleans Name
and transformed into a piece of the Bayou.

Entertainment included musical acts, vocal performers, individual
 performers, ethnic dancing etc.

Also at this event was a Alumni Gathering for St Scholastica School.
A reunion for all graduating classes at St. Scholastica School. Many
former students of the school were able to come back for one heck of a reunion, at such an fun event.

St. Scholastica Church is a Roman Catholic
Church located in Woodridge, Illinois. St.
Scholastica prides itself on providing these
types of events for the Community all year long.
St. Scholastica is a pillar in the Community and
what they do to help the Community travels far
beyond the Church's doors.

St. Scholastica School located in Woodridge, Illinois, is a private Catholic School providing the best possible education to it's students. It allows students to celebrate and honor their faith, while getting a quality education. St. Scholastica School has many events throughout the year, including a An Auction Evening in September.

Again this event was a joint effort between the School and The Church, the entire St. Scholastica Community.

Super Sunday Recognition Dinner

Well, Here We are continuing an awesome year, We call 2007.
And on Sunday January 21, 2007 The Bridgeview Lions Club
and the village of Bridgeview were putting on a fantastic event.

Every Year The Bridgeview Lions Club has their annual Appreciation
Awards and Super Sunday Recognition Dinner. On this cold Sunday
Afternoon at The Brand New Toyota Park, home to The Chicago Fire
Soccer team, The Bridgeview Lions Club and The Village of Bridgeview
jointly put on a program that will warm Your heart and keep You warm
and toasty inside, even though it is cold outside.

At this Appreciation Awards Luncheon The Bridgeview
Lions Club honored a Police Officer of The Year,
Firefighter of the Year, Vietnam Veteran of The Year,
Educator or teacher of The Year and a Community Service
 Award.

This Year's honors went to Officer Jason Stein for Police Officer of The year,
Lt. Richard brown for Firefighter of the Year, Retired Cpl. Joseph J. Mazarka, United States marine Corps, Anna Revell from Lyle School, for Indian Springs School District #109 Educator of The Year and Mary Denson for The Community Service Award. Also at The event The Bridgeview Lions honored Retiring Fire Chief Terrance Lipinski with a special award.

Also honored at the luncheon was The Bridgeview Senior Citizens,
Golden Agers and St. Fabian's Senior Citizens. United States Congressman Daniel Lipinski made a special appearance and presentation at the event.

A first for this event was excellent performance
by The Indian Springs District #109 Junior School
Band. My personal opinion this band gave a
 awesome performance beyond the typical
Junior High School Band.

The Master of ceremonies as is every year and again in My opinion another
one of the highlights for the ceremony, was Charter Bridgeview Lions Club Member and Bridgeview Auxiliary Police Officer Ray Jachim. Ray does an awesome job and even tied in his remarks to the Bears Game later that afternoon, as they would later win the NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints to get into the Super bowl. Also at this event was a yummy luncheon, which included Italian Beef, Grilled Chicken, My favorites curly Q Pasta Salad and much more.

Featuring A Meeting

At Bohemian National Cemetery

&

A Presentation on

Jens Jensen
&
Ossian Simmonds

Although a cemetery is not the first thing We think of when
talking about Rich History, Cultural and Art, a cemetery
can be a place of beauty and celebration as well as rest.
Yes celebration. The Friends of Bohemian National Cemetery
were established in 2003 to preserve and support Bohemian
National Cemetery. Their members appreciate the cemetery
 as a valuable showcase of art, sculpture, and architecture;
a source of historical and genealogical information; and a
 beautiful, serene resting place.

The Bohemian National Cemetery Association was chartered
in 1877 by the State of Illinois as a not-for-profit organization for
the purpose of providing a facility for interment, cremation and
inurnment of the remains of deceased persons. Founded as a last
resting place for persons of Czech (Bohemian, Moravian, and
Slovakian) birth, extraction or descent, it is currently operated
on a non-sectarian basis.

Spanning 126 acres, it has been called a beautiful Garden
of the Dead and is a Chicago landmark. Rich with genealogical
information, the cemetery is the final home for over 116,000 people.

Although all is welcome at Bohemian National Cemetery is
a place to celebrate Our Bohemian and Czech Heritage. It can
be compared to a Jewish, Scottish African-American Cemetery.
Again You do not have to be Bohemian or Czech to get in, but
it is place to cherish Our Czech Roots.

The Friends of Bohemian National Cemetery holds several
tours and free programs throughout the year and engage
in fundraising to support restoration of the cemetery.

Today We find Ourselves at Bohemian National Cemetery
for one of two meetings The Friends of BNC hold.

Today We are in The Columbarium for a awesome and informative presentation about Jen Jenson. On Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 1:00 p.m., Friends of BNC hosted a free program, open to all, about Jens Jensen and Ossian C. Simonds, contemporary architects of naturalistic landscape design.

Barbara Geiger was the presenter, and is a
landscape historian and design consultant.
She is an instructor at I.I.T., Northwestern
University and the Chicago Botanic Gardens,
and a lecturer and landscape tour guide at
 Graceland Cemetery.

After the program, everyone enjoyed some real
Bohemian Goodies at the gatehouse.

The
Northeast Region Jaycees
http://www.northeastjaycees.org

Presents

ROTS Training

&

PR Day

On Saturday February 3, 2007 at Eisenhower Junior High School,
The Woodridge Jaycees and The Darien Area Jaycees hosted
a very special event for The Northeast Region Jaycees.

As every so often The Northeast Region Jaycees offers it's ROTS Training
for new board members of individual Jaycee Chapters within The Northeast Region. ROTS, which stands for Region Officer Training School, let newly elected Board Members of each individual Jaycee Chapter, get the training
they needed. Elections were held in December of last year and January of this Year, in which members of each Jaycee chapter voted for their Board of Directors. You see, each Jaycee Chapter in the Northeast Region has a board
of directors. "The Board" as they are commonly referred to, consists of President, Management Development Vice President, Community Development Vice President, Individual Development Vice President, Membership Development Vice-President, Public Relations Director, Secretary, Treasurer, State Director and Local Director. We wanted to provide them with
all the tools they need to be successful at their position for which they were elected to. So specific classes were being held at Eisenhower Junior High School for all the positions mentioned above, as well as Principal Training, which was a training for everyone, Taught by Garrett McNalley from National Jaycee Staff. Region, State, and National Jaycee staff taught these classes.

One feature that was held at this event was
a PR Day/Media Day. At this event,
The Northeast Region Jaycees let Individual
Jaycee Members in the Northeast Region,
which consists of 26 Chapters, the opportunity
to effectively promote their Chapter and develop
a good working relationship with the Cable
Television, and Radio Media. This event offered
presentations by some of the best Public Relations
experts in The Midwest and they offered suggestions,
ideas and helpful hints on how to get Jaycee
chapters message out to the public, including
 one way; via the media.

This PR Day/Media Day featured an Expo. Exhibitors will include representatives from popular Cable Television Programs, radio stations, etc. Also at this event there was companies such as promotional items companies, Companies that feature fundraising, website designers, etc. We want to offer Jaycee Chapters resources to effectively promote themselves in the Community.

So this event is twofold, one learning how to effectively promote Your
Chapter, and the another, meeting the media and developing good relationships.

The Northeast Region Jaycees are a leadership training organization.
They Build Our future leaders through Community Service and the helping others. By helping others, they in turn help develop the skills they need to succeed in life.

So the day started out with everyone signing in and Principal Training for everyone, then everyone traveled down the halls of Eisenhower Junior High to find their specific training for their area. Then around 12:30pm everyone made their back to the main room and enjoyed lunch courtesy of The Jaycees, Italian Beef, Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, the werks. Master of Ceremonies for this event was Radio Icon Rich Renik from WCCQ 98.3. Rich celebrates 39 Years in Radio and did an awesome job as M.C.

Rich introduces several speakers, which included Fran Strohm from Strohm Consulting, to speak on websites, John Coonen, who spoke about Henry’s Place and The Illinois Jaycees website, Gina Tedisco, Public Relations Manager for The Morton Arboretum, who spoken one good public relations, advertising and marketing and finally Lauren Cofran from Amazing Concepts to get everyone excited.

On the last day of 2006 at Manhattan's American Bar & Grill, There
was a great celebration. Out with the old and in with the new. The
StingRays as I mentioned beforehand rocked out 2006 and rocked in
2007, a whole lot of rockin going on.

For the past several years the StingRays have taken
the stage at Manhattan's to celebrate New Year's. Guests
were treated to a special free concert and party favors
and a Champaign toast at Midnight, along with a special
New Year's menu if guests wished to purchase food.
This was a great thing, letting guests for the evening
purchase individually what they wanted to eat and what
they wanted to drink, rather than a set package price.
But reservations are definatleyrequired. In fact according
to a Manhattan's Spokesperson, they take reservations
 as early as July.

The StingRays are Chicagoland premier Feel good,
toe tapping, foot stomping, Rock N Roll Oldies Band.
The StingRays play a wide variety of Rock N Roll
favorites from the 50's, 60's and 70's and Features
great artists as The Buckinghams, Shadows of Night,
American Breed, Cryan Shames and of course The
Beatles and Elvis, please many many more, too

Scientists'
Birthday Party

Well as We closed out January, mid-way through it We
celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King. But one fun and interactive
science museum is taking it one step further. As well as honoring
Dr. King they are also are honoring scientists birthdays and are
celebrating the accomplishments of these scientists. On Monday
January 15, 2007, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, The SciTech Hands-
On Science Museum in Aurora, Illinois nestled comfy cozy inside
The Old Aurora Post Office, had their Scientists' Birthday Party.

With the museum normally closed on Mondays, the Museum opened
its doors for a special treat for the kiddies. At SciTech kids got the chance
to take part in interactive hands-on science exhibits and experiments.
Kids also were treated to a cool science show and of course no birthday
party would be complete without a birthday cake. Since kids had the day
off from school in honor of Dr. King's Birthday, they had a extra special
chance to learn about science outside the classroom.

SciTech Hands-On Interactive Science Museum
is Chicagoland's premier science museum. Learning
through doing is there motto. Kids dont read about
how some guy invented something about something.
They actually take part in the experiment. They become
part of the equation. As I have said many times kids are
learning about science even before than can read.

Scitech is for kids of all ages. While Scitechs focus is about kids learning
about science through doing, parents and adults are encouraged to take part
in the experiments and exhibits. All is welcome at SciTech. In fact, kids are now starting to grow up with Scitech and soon a second generations of kids
will be enjoying SciTech. Soon parents will be able to share what they
learned at SciTech as a kid, with their very own kids.

Storyteller Presentation

Well, The Christmas Season is shining bright and one place to get
the full Ho-Ho-Ho-Holiday experience is at The Downers Grove Park
 District.

Tonight We find ourselves at The Downers Grove
Park Districts Lincoln Center in Downers Grove
 for two great Holiday sensations.

First, We find ourselves at a visit and picture taken with Santa, however all
these good little boys and girls all have four legs. Thats right, You heard
Me correctly. Downers Grove Park District Santa Paws event, gives pet
owners the chance to bring their beloved dog, cat, hamster, whoever to
The Lincoln Center and have their picture taken with a digital camera
and a awesome souvenir of saint Nichols with their pooch or feline, printed
out right then and there. As in all visits to Santa a goodies bag is involved, however these goodies bags contain bones, tennis balls, etc. Pets of shapes and sizes got chance to bark or meow or dogese or catese what they wanted
for Christmas. Kids also were able to get into the act. Nothing says Christmas like Your pet and kid together with Santa Claus.

Next that same evening, there was a Storytelling Presentation,
by the very gifted and fun Oba William King. Mr. King is a
Poetic StoryTeller and gave an awesome presentation for
the kids and parents alike. He combined poems, with original
songs He has written, as well as Yuletide favorites, as well as
original stories about Santa Claus and such. He gives a very
interactive concert and presentation and really kids all the kids
moving. Mr. King performs all over the Country and has released
several CDs and has them for sale at each of his concerts.

Christmas Party

Hosted By
The Brookfield Jaycees
http://www.brookfieldjaycees.com

You know, Nothing says Merry Christmas, like pumpkins, skulls,
scary costumes, blood guts, gore, etc. It may seem a little strange,
but all makes perfect sense. The Northeast Region Jaycees had
Their annual Christmas Party, but with a little twist. As it is
common practice each Year The Northeast Region has an
individual Chapter within the Region to host their Holiday Party.

This Year was no different, The Brookfield Jaycees
took the helm of this Haunted Christmas Ship
and moved forward. Since at this party is
when The Northeast Region gives out its
best Haunted House awards and most Jaycee
members do not have a chance to wear their
Halloween costumes at The Haunted House,
because they are working behind the scenes,
The Brookfield Jaycees thought it would
be fun to make The Region Christmas Party
a Costume Party.

So on Saturday December 16, 2006 at The Brookfield VFW Hall in
Brookfield Illinois, everyone dressed up in their Halloween best for this
Holiday Party. Costumes that were worn included the whole Halloween
Gamete and not just scary costumes per say. The night even featured a costume contest, just like a Halloween Party Guests at The Northeast
Region Christmas Party could be found mingling and saying Hi or Boo
if You will. It was a great merging of two great Holidays for The Northeast Region Jaycees.

The Northeast Region Jaycees consists of 23 individual
Chapters and makes up the biggest part of The
Illinois Jaycees, being the region greatest
in members by far. The Jaycees are a
 leadership and training organization
for young people 18 to 41.

This party is a celebration of all their hard work,
especially with the Haunted House awards.

for giving. In Roselle, Illinois several totally awesome

Maywood, Illinois.

The Schaumburg/Elk Grove Elks taking the lead,
along with much help from The Roselle Lions Club,
Roselle American Legion Post 1084 and The Roselle
Chamber of Commerce. Plus help from The Roselle
Police and Fire Department escorting buses with the
veterans on them to Roselle American Legion Post 1084
These organizations came together at The Roselle
American Legion Post 1084 to provide just a fun day
for Vets from Hines V.A. Hospital. Vets for over 30
some years have looked forward to come to The
American Legion Post 1084 and partake in a wonderful
day, which includes an delicious Thanksgiving Day
Dinner, watching football and playing Bingo. So
many volunteers can be found also today on Thanksgiving.
These totally awesome radical cool terrific volunteers
donate a part of their Thanksgiving Holiday to spend time
with these veterans. They Rock, Baby!!! 1 to3 Volunteers
are assigned to each veteran to help them getting
a plate of yummy Thanksgiving Dinner, plus help them
with bingo, as well as just a companion.

Also several individuals braved the extremely sub-artic
temperatures (the Coldest Thanksgiving in over 55 Years)
and prepared several turkeys on the grill!!

The Roselle American Legion Post 1084 was
on hand and their color guard present to
greet the veterans, salute the veterans,
escort the Veterans to and through the door
and have a special presentation for the Veterans.

Summer Picnic

Well, On Saturday August 19, 2006 a great cookout
and picnic was taking place. The Downers Grove
VFW Post 503 and The Woodridge VFW Post 1578
were having their annual picnic. These two great
Veteran’s Organizations came together to host a
joint event at Echo Point Park in Woodridge, Illinois.
This fun and exciting picnic included tons of raffles,
a totally delicious cook-out lunch, featuring brats,
Italian sausages, burgers, doggies, and even two
fried turkeys, as well as horseshoes and much
more. It is great partnership between two very
special Veteran’s Organizations. The Downers Grove
VFW Post 503 purchased all the food, and ran all the
raffles and horseshoes and The Woodridge VFW Post
1578 provided the money for the food, the sound system
and music and hosted the event in The Awesome Village
of Woodridge. It was great time for these Veteran’s to get
together and celebrate their overseas military service
and a chance for us family and friends of The Two
VFW Post to thank them for all they have given to

York Theatre Building

Elmhurst, Illinois 60126-2806

Hey There!! Did You know there is a great organization that
wants preserve and celebrate The Architecture of Legendary
Theatre Buildings and operates a movie palace museum. Well
 There is.

The Theatre Historical Society of America was founded in 1969 by
the late writer and theatre historian
Ben M. Hall, author of the first
book on movie palaces, "The Best Remaining Seats." After Hall's
death in 1970, Brother Andrew C. Fowler, Frank Cronican, Terry
Helgesen and others were instrumental in shaping THSA and
helping it become the foremost organization of its kind in the
country. From just a handful of interested enthusiasts, it has
grown into a national organization with an international
membership of more than 1,000 individuals, performing arts
organizations, university and public libraries, and other interested
firms and groups. The Theatre Historical Society of America is an
 IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization.

THSA is the only organization in the United States which
exclusively records and preserves the architectural,
cultural and social history of American theatres. Through
its archive and publications, THSA makes available information
on more than 14,000 theatres nationwide, and encourages
research in this often-neglected aspect of our popular
 culture and history.

Located in Elmhurst, Illinois, THSA occupies the second floor of the
York Theatre building. In addition to having its offices there, the
Society also conducts two other activities:

The American Theatre Architecture Archive, which contains an extensive collection of photographs, slides, negatives, books, blueprints, clippings, videotapes, programs, and other material on historic theatres, primarily in the U.S.

The American Movie Palace Museum, featuring exhibits of photographs, artworks, antiques, artifacts, and other memorabila relating primarily to the "golden age" of the movie palace.

Both facilities are open to members and the public. Admission
is free; donations are gratefully accepted. The Museum is open
during regular business hours and some weekends and evenings,
without appointment. Research in the Archive is by advance
 appointment only; research fees apply.

Administration of the Society is carried out by
the Executive Director, Richard J. Sklenar,
on behalf of the board of directors, comprised
of elected officers, ten regional directors, and
various committee chairpersons. In addition, there
 is a hard-working corps of dedicated member-volunteers
who undertake many of the day-to-day activities.

Hey there, did You now that is a great organization that lets

Durkin and Shelia Peters. It was formed because of the clear need
both authors felt where "local authors could come together and
share positive marketing ideas and experiences to help eveyone
SELL MORE BOOKS."

Their group now has a substantive, informative, and interactive website.
In Their meetings we normally have a guest speaker. After their
presentation, the members are encouraged to ask questions.

They now incorporate a social purpose.
After each meeting They go to a
local restaurant to continue networking

Field Day

To

12pm
Sunday June 25, 2006

Well folks once again it's time for Field Day. We all know Field Day.
It is when Members of the Chicago Suburban Radio Association
(CSRA) put their emergency communication skills to the test
when they participated in Field Day on Saturday June 24 and
Sunday 25. The annual preparedness exercise brings together
Amateur Radio operators from throughout North and South
America who are committed to assisting their communities in
the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Field Day is
sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL),
the national association for Amateur Radio.

Field Day is designed to test operators' abilities to set up and
operate stations in the field under emergency conditions, such as
the loss of commercial electricity. During the weekend, radio
operators try to contact as many other Field Day stations as
possible, simulating the fast on-air skills needed to assist local
officials and served agencies during an emergency.

THE CSRA...

has been serving Chicago area hams and radio enthusiasts since the
dawn of radio itself! Their membership over the years lists well into
the thousands. Many of these members were taught the Amateur Radio
theory and Morse Code by fellow CSRA members. Their members have
spanned all walks of life, from construction workers to lawyers; bankers
to broadcasters and everyone in between. For 80 years, Chicagoland
men, women and children from age 9 to 90 have called the CSRA their
radio club!

CSRA is one of the oldest radio clubs
chartered in the State of Illinois and
has been affiliated with the American
Radio Relay League for over 70
years. Building on this rich history,
CSRA looks to the future with eyes
 on fresh ideas and emerging
technologies.

Ham radio is the premier high-tech hobby. It's enjoyed by people from all
walks of life from around the world. The rules for becoming an amateur
(ham) radio operator vary from country to country around the world.

On this page we're going to tell you a little about the hobby
and how you can obtain the necessary license to operate in the
United States.

Using even the simplest of radio setups and antennas,
amateurs communicate with each other for fun, during
emergencies, and even in contests. They handle messages for
police and other public service organizations during all kinds
 of emergencies including:

Hurricanes

Earthquakes

Tornadoes and floods

Motorist accidents

Fires and chemical spills

The Alliance Against

Featuring
The 3rd Annual Candace
Open Golf Outing
http://www.candacewesolowski.com

Drunk Driving is a very serious crime, Yes a Crime. Disregard
for the safety of You own person and more important the
safety of innocent people. Drunk Driving has for many years
been one of Americas biggest problems the punishment for
drunk driving never seems to be enough, especially when they
take the innocent lives of Our loved ones. Families who have
lost loved ones to drunk drivers, many feel they can not go on,
but they can. With The Help of a great organization - Alliance
against intoxicated motorists. They work with the families of
victims and help them through that tough Court Process.
Their Victim Service Advocates work with the families of
the victims of drunk drivers. In fact many of their Victim
Service Advocates sadly have lost a child to a drunk driver
as well, so they have much understanding on that families
of victims are going through.

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists have several events,
including the 3rd Annual Candace Open Golf Outing

On Friday May 19, 2006 The family of Candace Wesolowski hosted a golf outing to raise funds for a scholarship in Candaces name. The Alliance against Intoxicated Motorists was also named as a
recipient of part of the proceeds from this event. This golf
outing took place at Cog Hill in Lemont, Illinois.

Candace was a graduate of Hinsdale South High School.
Candace participated in more than 20 plays during
her high school years. Her ambition was to be an architect.
The significant thing about Candace is that she never
drank alcohol or did recreational drugs. She was devoted
to family, education and hard work. Sadly, two drunk drivers
took her life on December 26, 1999 in Downers Grove, Illinois.
 She was 18 years old.

This event did feature a silent auction, as well as some raffles.

2nd Annual
Night Walk

"We Walk in the Dark,
so they won't have to"

Well, once again it is time to take a nice walk in the woods.
June has come and gone and You know that The beginning
of June in The Chicagoland Area would not be complete if not
for The Lions of Illinois Foundation's 2nd Annual Night Walk. On
Sunday June 4, 2006, Lion Club members and families and friends
from Lions District 1J and throughout the state of Illinois gathered
at The Danada House & Equestrian Center in Wheaton, Illinois to
walk 3 Miles in the dark and carry flashlights. "We walk in the dark...
so they won't have to." TM is the event officially trademarked slogan.
This walk was designed to simulate what a blind person faces everyday
day and night. The event was founded and chaired by Darien Lion Ray
Krusinski and put on by The Lions of Illinois Foundation. The Lions
of Illinois Foundation serves as the chartable arm for The Illinois Lions
Club, running several events including this one and of course Candy
Day. There was some fun new activities such as walking as a blind
person would and beep baseball. Participants this Year as well as
last Year had a chance to make their presence known by stamping
a footprint and signing a banner. Of course plenty of refreshments
were available to walkers provided by PepsiCo, featuring Gatorade
products and of course entertainment wa provided at the end of the

Wine, Wine everywhere and not a drop to drink.
Not exactly. In fact their was plenty of wine
to drink at The Woodridge Jaycees Wine Tasting
on Sunday April 23, 2006, The Woodridge Jaycees in
cooperation with WineStyles of Woodridge and Shanahan’s
Food and Spirits of Woodridge put on a fantastic wine tasting
event. The Woodridge Jaycees hosted this wonderful event
include tasting several wines, plus cheese and apples to
cleanse Your palate between tastings, as well as a
professional harp player. Wine Tasters had the
opportunity to travel from table to table sampling
each wine. All the names of the wines were kept
hidden until the end of the program. Wine coinsurers
bounced from table to table tasting and then down what
they thought of each wine. At the end of the afternoon
Rich Moore owner and proprietor of Shanahan’s Food and
Spirits of Woodridge and Charlene Pontrelli from WineStyles
of Woodridge together went from table to table having once
again wine tasters try another sample, then relieving the name
of the wine and then describing each wine in mass detail.
Everyone had there favorite wine and opinions varied quite
a bit.

This Wine Tasting served a a M-Day or Membership Day
to requite new members.

Self Defense Class

On Saturday March 25, 2006 at The Downers Grove
Recreational Center in Downers Grove Illinois The
Woodridge Jaycees was putting on a great Self Defense
 Class.

Today Woodridge Jaycees members were learning
a special type of self-defense called JKD Jeet
Kune Do.
Forbidden in Hollywood...and banned in
even ‘no rules’ martial arts – Bruce Lee’s private
street-fighting technology shows elite military
 soldiers…top law enforcement agents…and
civilian men and women How To Take Out Any
Attacker…No Matter How Big, Mean And Violent
They Are…Using Nothing More Than The Tips Of
Your Fingers. This form of self defense is just that
defense and can be used by people of all ages,
sizes and physical conditions. It is designed to
end a confrontation and as quickly as possible.

Today students can learn to protect themselves in a situation
were words have unfortunately failed. All arguments and
heated discussions should be fought with words not fists,
but sometimes such as in a robbery, or defending the honor
and safety of Our Children preventive measures must be
taken. These are particular techniques are meant to be used
by the little old lady in the parking lot held up by gunpoint.
This form of self-defense will not be seen in a Chuck Norris
Movie and the confrontation will not last 15 minutes, it will
end quick and allowing You to escape with very limited harm
to Yourself or Your loved ones.

Today Woodridge Jaycees are learning this valauable form of
self defense taught by Matt from Elite Defense Systems. Elite
Defense Systems (EDS) was founded by Matthew J. Numrich.
Mr. Numrich was certified as one of only a handful of Full
Instructor of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and the Filipino Martial Arts
by Sifu Paul Vunak (under Guru Dan Inosanto). He is currently
1 of only 12 which hold this level in the Midwest. Mr. Numrich has
also had the pleasure of training with some of the other elite JKD
instructors such as Sifu Larry Hartsell (original student of Bruce
Lee) and Tom Cruse (past instructor of the Navy SEALS).

The Woodridge Jaycees as well as helping
the Community also provides classes such as
this one seen here today to help improve Our
members individuals skills. Self Defense is
a key skill to master when becoming one of
the Community’s top leaders. This project falls
under what is called Individual Development.
Although ID Projects are seen considerably less
often as Community Development Projects, they
are just as important. ID Projects include training
on many different skills, including public speaking,
writing skills, performing skills such as Jaycee Idol
similar to Karaoke and much more. ID projects can
be requested by Our members. Our members let us
know what skills they need to brush up on and We
will try Our best to provide training for the requested
skill.

The Woodridge Jaycees is it’s members and it’s those members that
decide what they want to get out of their membership. And then all
these skills are applied through all of the wonderful Community Service
 We do.

The Woodridge Lions Club
Annual Easter Egg Hunt
For The Village
of Woodridge

Help Save
The Woodridge Lions Club!!!

You know, Easter can be a real fun time for kids.
Easter in The Village of Woodridge would not be the
same without The Woodridge Lions Club Easter Egg
Hunt. However this could be the last year The
Woodridge Lions Club puts this event on. As it
stands right now The Woodridge lions Club are
sadly disbanding and closing up shop due to lack
of interest and funds. They will be ending a marvelous
run and will be no more by July 1. However We hope
that The Woodridge Lions Club and continue with
the support of the Community with a esurience of new
members and financial support. For many years this
project was chaired by Lion Jerry Pech. Mr. Pech
passed away last thanksgiving. However his son Andy
has stepped up this Year to continue Jerry’s legacy and
his vision. The Easter Egg Hunt will be put on at least
one last time by The Woodridge Lions Club, before it is
continued by The Woodridge Jaycees, if needed. However
if there is enough of support for The Woodridge Lions Club and
The Woodridge Lions Club can continue through next year,
The Woodridge Lions Club will host this event once again.
Andy Pech is chairing this event in honor of his Dad, Jerry Pech

Every year the Woodridge Lions Club have hosted Woodridge’s Official
Easter Egg Hunt. Kiddies of all ages arrive at Thomas Jefferson Junior
High School with baskets in hand. The field at Jefferson is cordoned
off and different sections are for different age groups. With in literally
seconds hundreds of eggs are gathered by local kiddies. Eggs are filled
with candy and each one filled by hand. About a week or so earlier
before the hunt, the eggs are prepared and stuffed at St. Scholastica
Catholic Church in Woodridge, Illinois. Along with The Woodridge Lions
Club, this effort would be possible if not for The Scouting Troops in Woodridge, including Boy Scout Troop 512, Girl Scout Troops 45,531, 567,
1271 and 1811, as well as The Woodridge Jaycees ( who are shadowing the goings on today, to step up and chair this project next year, only if needed,
but it would be great if The Woodridge Lions Club could carry on this tradition).

Eggs need to be sorted according
to color and then filled with a
marvelous candy assortment. Everyone
pitches in, opens great big bags of
candy and gets everything for the big
day.

On the big day, eggs are spread onto the field
and then everything is checked over and the hunt
 will begin.

Even though The Woodridge Lions Club may and that’s
a really big may disband, there is no need to fret kiddies
of Woodridge, The Village of Woodridge Easter Egg Hunt
will continue no matter what and Lion Jerry Pech’s vision
and Legacy will be carried on.

As I mentioned The Woodridge Lions
Club is disbanding and is in need of
additional members and financial support,
however if they can get interest they will be here
 to stay.

So if You would like more information about The Woodridge Lions
Club and would like to keep the vision of The Woodridge Lions
alive and well, then I strongly encourage You to join The Woodridge
Lions Club. The Woodridge Lions Club still has a few dedicated and hardworking members. They stress the urgency of new members and
funds. Along with Your support they can still continue their mission of
helping the vision and hearing impaired members of Our Community and
the world. The Woodridge Lions will be disbanding July 1, but Your support can postponed that date and even cancel it for good. Please help save The Woodridge Lions Club!!! Thanks a million!!!

The West Suburban
Those Were The Days
Radio Players

You know We are all aware of the fact that there used
to be radio programs and radio stories, but probably
do not appreciate their value or even know much about
them at all. Before the radio was tainted with Shock
Jocks such as Howard Stern and other loud and fowled
mouth jerks were call radio personalities, their was a
golden age of radio. In the 20s 30s and even 1940s
there was awry of good, fun and exciting radio
programs. The type of programs that let Your mind
create the pictures inside Your head. Sitting around the
radio after dinner and just listening to the words, but
not staring at a big fat radio, but closing Your eyes and
seeing Jack Bennys face, see the Long Ranger riding
together with his old pal tonto, or see Joe Friday
 make the bust.

The West Suburban Those Were the Days Radio Players
bring back those golden days of radio, they bring us a
world where radio is king and the thing shocking is how
cheap Jack Benny could be. They are a group of Radio
Players that get together and recreate radio programs and
stories using original scripts from that era. The Group truly
brings that Golden Age to us currently in 2006.

The West Suburban Those Were The Days Radio Players
are one of several Those Were The Days Radio Players
throughout The Chicagoland Area

Today at The Woodridge Library, The Those were
The Western Suburban Those Were The Days Radio
Players are giving one of many library performances
they do through the Chicagoland area.

Today The Western Suburban Those Were The Days Radio
Players treat us to three great Radio Programs, which
include An Episode of my Friend Erma, The Jack Benny Show
and of course no West Suburban Those Were The Days Radio
Players Show would be complete without a episode of the ever
popular Bickersons

This Program at the Woodridge Public Library
was part of their Big Read Program - Which
The Book to read was Sea Biscuit. So the West
Surbuban Those Were The Days Radio Players

about horseracing.

Arbor Day
Tree Planting

at
The
Morton Arboretum
http://www.mortonarb.org

Well, It’s April and Arbor Day is practically upon us.
We have all heard of Arbor Day, somewhere, but We
probably do not appreciate the true value of Arbor Day
especially in this area. For it was Founder of Morton
Arboretum Joy Morton’s Dear Old Dad Julius Sterling
Morton who founded Arbor Day way back in 1872 in
 Nebraska.

At The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, Arbor Day is
The Arboretum Flagship Holiday, it’s there own personally
Christmas, Independence Day, Thanksgiving all rolled into
 one.

The Morton Arboretum was formally established on
December 14, 1922 by Mr. Joy Morton, owner of the
Morton Salt Company. Its mission is
to collect and
study trees, shrubs, and other plants from around
the world, to display them across naturally beautiful
landscapes for people to study and enjoy, and to learn
how to grow them in ways that enhance our environment.
Their goal is to encourage the planting and conservation of
trees and other plants for a greener, healthier, and more
 beautiful world.

On Arbor Day, everyone from The Arboretum gathers
together for a mondo Arbor Day Celebration and
tree planting. Kids had a chance to get their hands dirty
sort of speak and learn about the renewal of Spring and
the Value of Trees and The Importance of of Arbor Day

Featuring A Meeting
At The
Westchester
Public Library
about The
S.S. Eastland Disaster

Their members appreciate the cemetery
 as a valuable showcase of art, sculpture, and architecture;
a source of historical and genealogical information; and a
 beautiful, serene resting place.

Today We find Ourselves at One of Friends of BNC events.
On Sunday February 26 at The Westchester Public Library,
their was a program on The Eastland Disaster.

Early on the morning of Saturday, July 24, 1915, with a light
rain falling and the air filled with much anticipation and excitement,
thousands were gathering along the Chicago River for Western
Electric's fifth annual employee picnic. In fact, over 7,000 tickets
had been purchased.

The S.S. Eastland, known as the "speed queen of the Great Lakes,"
was part of a fleet of five excursion boats assigned to take Western
Electric employees, their families and friends across Lake Michigan
to Michigan City, Indiana, for the day's festivities.

But the Eastland, docked at the Clark Street Bridge, never
left the Chicago River. It instead rolled into the river at the
wharf's edge with over 2,500 passengers, including crew
members, on board. Over 800 people lost their lives, including
 22 entire families.

Many victims of The Eastland Disaster were buried in Bohemian
National Cemetery, so this program was very
appropriate

for Friends of BNC event.

Aurora, Illinois

You know with radio becoming even more of a big business
and voices being pumped in from hundreds of miles away,
it is nice to see a radio station that still broadcasts live all
the time 24-7 and broadcasts right in Our Local Community.
In Aurora, Illinois The River 959 Broadcasts high and mighty
as one of this area’s last and true Community radio stations.
With in house sales and production, along with an all local
on-air staff, including the morning show, The River shines
as a beacon of hope for the Community. The River donates
it’s time and resources for My Local Charitable organizations,
by providing time on the air -commonly in the form of live-
reads for on-air staff,, as well as having The River come to
these organizations and either broadcast or just pass out
some goodies. Plus the The River has a Community Affairs
program on Sunday morning. They do all this while playing
some on gosh darn best rock n roll favorites. (Gosh Darn It)
So The River is truly The Suburbs hometown station . It is
the station of yesteryear, the way We remember radio stations
to be and at The same time having all digital equipment and
computers to help run the technical side of the radio station,
while leaving the D.J’s to share their naturally Gopd Given
talents. Geno and Karen in The Morning, is a very popular and
unique touch to the radio station.

A Banquet Honoring

Lion Dr. Ashok Mehta
President Lions Clubs International
http://www.lionsclubs.org

Hey There! We all have heard about The Lions Club every
now and then. But The Lions Club is more than just a name
or just a charitable organization. The Lions Club is structured
in a way to serve people all over the world. Lions Clubs
 International.

Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity
to give something back to their communities. From involving
members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as
far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs
have always embraced those committed to building a brighter
 future for their community.

Today with more than 46,000 clubs in 196 countries and
geographical areas, Lions have expanded their focus to
help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global
community.

Their programs are continually changing to meet new
needs and greater demands, but their mission has
never wavered: "We Serve."

One interesting fact is that The Lions Club was formed
in the Chicagoland Area, with Their International
 Headquarters in Oak Brook.

On Sunday Janaury 8, 2006 The Darien Lions Club hosted
a banquet For Lions Clubs International President
Dr. Ashok Mehta. This marked the first time any Local
Illinois Club, had hosted such a banquet for the President
of The Lions Club - International. It all took place at Ashyana
Banquets in Downers Grove, Illinois. Out of respect for
Dr. Mehta’s home Country - India, The Very Special evening
included The Indian National Anthem, a Prayer read in Hindi,
Indian Cuisine along with Special Indian Dancing. Also featured
that evening was The Eisenhower Junior High School
Chorus. Many dignitarys and special guests were on hand,
including the State Senator Christine Radogno, Mayor of
Darien - Kathy Weaver, and Lion District 1J Governor - Bob Jilke.
And of a course a highlight the parade of Flags, flags of
Countries from around the world flew high and mighty.

Gravette Day
http://gravette.biz

Well, as We find ourselves in the cold of winter as The
month of February rolls along, I want to take You back
to The Summer and much warmers temperatures. You
know for Me one of the best part's of traveling around this
great Country of ours is visiting with Family. I had a chance
to have a wonderful weekend visiting with My Aunt and Uncle
 - Cindy and Jerry Kara. This particular weekend in August The
Family found itself in Gravette, Arkansas. Gravette which
is in the very Northwest tip of Arkansas is where my Aunt
and Uncle and two Cousins have called home for nearly
25 Years. I found Gravette to be a very special Community.
Definitely The Heartland of America. Gravette is a town of
nearly 2,000 people, however I visited a festival in Gravette
that attracted nearly double that amount of people. Gravette
Day is a Yearly Birthday Celebration for Gravette that takes
place every second Saturday of August. Much excitement can
be found today. The whole literally throws itself a mondo
huge Birthday Celebration. The Day starts off with a Pancake
Breakfast put on by The Kiwanis and held at The Gravette
High School Cafeteria. Nothing like Pancakes, sausages, milk,
juice, the works to start of a super-duper day such as Gravette
Day. A Big Highlight for The day is the Gravette Day Parade.
Hundreds of people show up to show their American Spirit
and American Pride and to celebrate the wonderful town of
Gravette. There were many cool floats and attractions in this
Parade to make it one to remember. After the parade everyone
gathered in Veteran's Park for a fun celebration of food, fun,
crafts and much more. A firefighter's muster took place that
afternoon and was a hardy completion between local Fire
departments in the Gravette. It was a good contest with several
events including a bucket brigade. Also that afternoon there was
several Beauty Contests of literally all ages. Also Gravette High
School Graduating Classes of 200, 1995 1990, 985, etc, etc, etc
will have their reunions as well that day and were very much
represented in the Gravette Day Parade as well.

Joe Cantafio's
Live Performance of
"They're All Not On The Wall"

Since the first time he picked up a guitar at the age of twelve,
Joe Cantafio was headed for great things. Sure, he played
in groups. He was the lead-singer and guitarist of one of
Chicago's top rock and roll bands; Jade 50's, later known
as Jade.

His voice is has been a part of Americana since the late 70’s,
heard on TV and radio commercials singing the praises
of Shasta, McDonalds, Betty Crocker, Huffy Bikes and New
Balance Shoes, to name a few.

He has performed on American Bandstand, and was
the music director of Dick Clark's Good Ol Rock and
Roll Show at the age of twenty-two. He toured with
Wolfman Jack and has performed side by side with
legends like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Del Shannon,
Three Dog Night, BTO, Rick Springfield, America, BS&T,
 and countless others.

The songs he penned have been heard from sea to
shinning sea. His tribute to the Vietnam Soldier, a
song he wrote called They're All Not On The Wall,
reached out nationally and received rave reviews.

One night, while performing one of his marathon shows,
his band mates said, We need a break, we can't do three
hours straight! Not wanting to disappoint the audience
by taking one of those long breaks bands are famous for,
and wanting to satisfy his fellow musicians, Cantafio
added a twenty minute acoustic solo set in the middle
of the show. The crowd loved it, the band got their break,
and Joe Cantafio, the soloist was born.

As a soloist, you really get to know him. He's a storyteller
with something to say. He's an American who loves his
country and makes you feel that same pride. Joe takes
rock classics like Born To Run and With Or Without You
and makes them his own. On the other hand, his original
music makes you feel what he felt as he wrote the song.
He can make you laugh, get you up singing along or pull
you in as he melts into a love song.

After the tragedy of September 11th, Cantafio wrote
a three-hour solo effort and toured with the
firefighters of New York's Engine Company 55.
His Let Freedom Sing tour went coast-to-coast
receiving critical acclaim. Sometimes the show
went five hours,  without a break! Cantafio said;
During the Let Freedom Sing Tour, I was in
awe and honored to be standing with New York's
bravest, firefighters who put it on the line at a time
when the world was watching and needing a real
hero. The brave men of FDNY Engine Company 55
 are those heroes.

In 2004 Cantafio toured Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Africa and
UAE with his new band, The 101st Rock Division. A highlight
of the tour was performing American rock and roll on the
steps of Saddam Hussain's Baghdad Palace. Joe's solo portion
of their show brought standing ovations from the troops. Cantafio
said, During our tour overseas performing for America's finest
men and women, I felt at home. Some of the greatest people I have
ever met, I met on that tour.

In October of 2004, Joe Cantafio received the 2004
American Patriot Award from the Exchange Club
of Naperville, Illinois. Cantafio's performance at the
Exchange Club's Ribfest with the New York firefighters
received national attention and showed how one person
can really make a difference.

A book titled Let Freedom Sing is currently being
written and will include the last three-and-a-half
years of Cantafio's incredible odyssey. When I sit
back and think about where the past three-plus
years have taken me, it feels like I am living on
the History Channel. Ground Zero, New York
Washington DC, Baghdad, Iraq, Kuwait City...
 Africa.

I have met mayors, governors, senators, congressmen,
generals and the President of the United States,  and
then I snap out of it real quick when one of my four
daughters needs me to put her wet clothes in the dryer
said Cantafio, a single father who raises his daughters. My
 daughters are my finest accomplishment.

Joe Cantafio will continue to perform as a soloist and
will tour schools, colleges, conventions and perform
concerts as he tells his incredible story through music
 we all grew up to.

Joe is co-founder of The Forgotten Heroes Project

The Forgotten Heroes Project

Forgotten Heroes officially is a 501(C) (3) Charity Organization.
All funds donated to Forgotten Heroes are tax-deductible

What They Do

Forgotten Heroes is a charitable organization whose
purpose is to recognize those long term hospitalized
veterans that are typically either bed-ridden, mobility
challenged, or otherwise socially disadvantaged.

Forgotten Heroes realizes that too many hospitalized
veterans do not have family nor do they receive many
visitors, and its mission is to recognize and honor
these heroes and to show our country's gratitude for
their service.

This is accomplished by:

Visiting and providing entertainment on a regular basis,
often one-on-one in the patient's room

Improving the veteran's quality of life by way of
upgrading their rooms with paintings, wall
treatments, flowers, etc.

Facilitating a letter-writing program within the local
schools, giving America's youth an opportunity to show
their gratitude to those who have sacrificed themselves
 for our freedom.

Who They Are

Forgotten Heroes was formed by
Joe Cantafio, a well-known
 local recording musical artist and
Robert Kolling, a
decorated Vietnam combat veteran.

Joe and his band, the ST Rock Division, have
traveled throughout U.S. bases in the Middle
East performing for the brave soldiers of America
and the Coalition Forces in Iraq who preserve
the world's freedom and liberate the oppressed.
Joe also formed the Let Freedom Sing tour that
traveled coast-to-coast along with the firefighters
from New York's Engine Co. 55 to raise funds
 following the September 11th tragedy.

Welcomes Worldwide Rotary Visitors
At
Castaldo Park
in
Woodridge, Illinois
USA

Well it was a simply gorgeous Very Late Spring Saturday
Afternoon. A fabulous day for a fabulous event. A very
monumental occasion. A chance for people from across
the globe to gather together to enjoy great company and
fellowship, plus music, food and much much more.

During the weekend of June 17 and June 18, which was
Father's Day weekend The Rotary Club International
had their annual convention. This Year's Convention
took place right here in Chicago to commemorate the
100 Anniversary of Rotarianism . Chicago was where
the Rotary Club was formed by Paul Harris in 1905.
Nearly 40,000 Rotary Club members from 150 Countries
came to Chicago For The Rotary's annual International
 Convention held at McCormick Place.

The Rotary Club of Woodridge hosted a gathering
at Castaldo Park in Woodridge, Illinois For Their
National and International Rotarian Brethren. They
had a Chartered Bus go downtown pick up all these
worldwide Rotary Visitors, who traveled to Chicago
For The Rotary's International Convention and brought
them back with a Woodridge Police Escort right to
Castaldo Park. When the Rotarians from across the
globe arrived at The Park, they were immediately greeted
by The Rotary Club of Woodridge Members. The key
word is hospitality and The Rotary Club of Woodridge
definitely showed that to other friends from around the
world.

These special visitors all gathered inside the pavilion
at Castaldo for music, fun and especially fellowship.
It is so cool to see people from different Countries and
with different cultures interact. To see these individuals
share their culture and traditions to other Rotarians and
for those Rotarians to accept and respect that culture was
definitely something to see. Rich Moore a member and
treasurer of The Rotary Club of Woodridge provided a
magnificent array of food, including hamburgers, chicken,
sausage etc. So there was so much good food and good
drink, including soda and of course beer.

The Rotary Club of Woodridge also had a special ceremony
where international visitors could change banners with
and presented gifts to The Rotary Club of Woodridge.
Gifts presented To The Rotary Club of Woodridge would
be auctioned off to raise monies for Rotary international.

What's The Rotary Club all about?

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and
 professional leaders that provides humanitarian
service, encourages high ethical standards in all
vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the
world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to
more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 167 countries.

The focus of every Rotary club worldwide is to encourage
and foster the ideal of "service" as a basis of worthy
enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the
following four principles:

1.
Encourage the development of acquaintances and
 friendships as an opportunity for service;

2. Uphold high ethical standards in business and professions,
the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations,
and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an
opportunity to serve society;

3. The application of the ideal of "service" in each Rotarian's
 personal, business, and community life.

4. Foster the advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business
and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Relay For Life
of
Wood Grove

As You read on Our opening credits you seen the words
Relay For Life? And You wonder what exactly is Relay
For Life? Relay for Life is a celebration of life. A celebration
of survival.

Words can never adequately describe The American Cancer
Society's Relay For Life®. You just have to experience it.
It's a combination of sights, sounds, and activities and an
outpouring of emotions  hope, unity, perseverance, and triumph
for so many cancer survivors. It is the tender memories of those
 we have lost to cancer.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to
celebrate survivorship and raise money for research,
advocacy, education and patient services programs
of the American Cancer Society. During the event,
teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or
parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each
team tries to keep at least one team member on the
 track at all times.

Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to
cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face
cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer
 will be eliminated

One person can make a difference. Nowhere is that
more evident than with the story of the American Cancer
Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington,
as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal
surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local
American Cancer Society office. He decided to personally
raise money for the fight by doing something he
enjoyed running marathons.

In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours
circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University
of Puget Sound in Tacoma for more than 83 miles.
Throughout the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk
30 minutes with him. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer.
That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt's friends,
family, and patients watched as he ran and walked
the course.

While he circled the track those 24 hours, he thought
about how others could take part. He envisioned a
24-hour team relay event that could raise more
money to fight cancer. Months later he pulled
together a small committee to plan the first team
relay event known as the City of Destiny Classic
 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In 1986, 19 teams took part in the first team relay
event on the track at the colorful, historical Stadium
Bowl and raised $33,000. An indescribable spirit
prevailed at the track and in the tents that dotted
 the infield.

Today we find ourselves at Downers Grove North
High School in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Relay For Life of Wood Grove was a two day celebration
